How to Change Your Oil in Fifteen Minutes!

You can purchase oil from your local automotive store. They usually have
them on special, 5 quarts of oil and an oil filter anywhere from twelve
to fifteen dollars but this does also require some tools and equipment.
But with the right tools and equipment, you will be a professional at
changing the oil for your vehicles. You will need, a jack, jack stands,
socket set, oil bucket (to hold the oil), and a rag in case you get a
little dirty. First you will need to jack up the vehicle. Put the jack
stands on each end of the car just underneath the driver and passenger
doors. There should be a little notch where to put the jack stands.
These are in case the jack wants to fail for any reason. If you would
like to, you can lower the vehicle on the jack stands to make life a
little easier. Now that you have the vehicle jacked up, you need to get
under the vehicle and look for the oil pan. Now that you have located
the oil pan, you will see a drain plug. Every vehicle has one, you just
have to find it!
Now you grab your socket set and find the right size socket to use to
remove your drain plug. When the right size is found, put the oil bucket
under the drain plug. For best results, before letting the oil drain,
start the car and let it run for about ten minutes so the oil circulates
through the engine and warms up. This is so the oil will drain smoother
and faster but be careful not to burn your self because the engine will
be hot! Wear proper gloves and a long sleeve shirt if necessary.
Now that the vehicle has been running for at least ten minutes, you can
turn the vehicle off. Put the oil bucket under the drain plug and take
off the drain plug. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. A little trick i always
use! Be careful taking off the drain plug because the oil will come out
fast so you have to be quick! After the oil drains, you may screw the
drain plug back into place. Now to change the oil filter just unscrew
the filter with your hand but be careful not to burn yourself. after
that has drained, put the new filter in its place. Jack the vehicle back
up and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle off of the jacks and
remove the jack. On top of the engine you should see a cap that says
"oil" on it. Unscrew it and fill the oil with a funnel. After you fill
the car with the oil, start the vehicle for about 15-30 seconds then
turn the vehicle off. There should be a dipstick near the oil cap. Pull
it out, wipe it, put it back in, and pull it out to check it again. If
it is at the right level, you are finished. If not then add as needed.
Don't forget to record your mileage so you know when to change your oil
next!
